| Mime Types Mime types tell browsers how to handle specific extensions. You can alter or add new mime types specifically for your site (note that you can not alter the system defined mime type values). MIME types are often used to handle new technologies as they appear. When WAP technology first appeared no one had these extensions set up on their server. With mime types, however, you could have set it up yourself and begun serving WAP pages immediately. |

| Apache Handlers Apache handlers allow you to control what Apache will do with certain file types. When Apache sees a file, it has an action built in for that file type, and will perform that action. If you wish Apache to do a different action, you will need to make a handler to tell Apache to perform that action. For example, if you use a file type that requires a special service to run it, such as a movie file (.mpg) that you wish to run through a specific streaming server, you need to tell Apache to treat these files differently. |
